Teheran

Since we already posted something about North-Korea, we thought it would be approriate to introduce the other member of the 'Axis of Evil': Iran and it's capital Teheran!

Of course you are free to read and believe what you want, but we think that Teheran and Iran (not the government, but the people) are very friendly and those two are completely different worlds. So, at least, give a try!

Ok, we admit, the air polution in Teheran is really an issue. The air is brown of the smog, it's crowded with cars and it's total chaos. So far the bad news. So why don't take the underground in Teheran which opened in 2000 and has 3 lines.

Places to visit in Teheran are: the Green Palace, the White Palace, the Milad Tower, Park-e Laleh,

Although you might think that all Iranians are crazy people, be aware that especially Teheran has a young population with high education. A lot of young people speak English and want to get in touch with you. They are not against the Western countries or the USA, it's their government which doesn't like the West.

Don't be surprised if you would be invited to people at home to have dinner with them or drinks. And forget what they say about the Islamic Republic and the lack of drugs and alcohol. Alcohol, behind closed doors of course, is widely available, and drugs (even hard drugs) are a huge (and of course denied) problem in Iran.

Forget creditcards and/or cheques, they don't work. Although you wouldn't be the first who tries to get his American Express accepted in Iran! Take a bulkload of cash with you. Change your money on the black market where you get a better rate, or just pay as much as possible in euro or US dollar. You would be surprised how happy Iran people can be with US dollars....

Try to avoid Iran in December and January as it's freezing cold. Not to forget the summers (July and August) when the country feels like an oven. Iran has a land climate, so be prepared or just deal with it.

And you never gonna believe it, but Teheran even has a carpet museum!
