Iceland

Ice, ice baby! When you think of Iceland, you think of euhm.......Ice. Duh! But it's not always freezing cold overthere.

Roughly between mid-April and mid-October it's pretty good time to go to this crazy island.

Generally speaking, Icelandic people are a bit weird. We don't say they are crazy, not at all, but just a bit weird. Especially in the captial of Reykjavik.

Don't expect a big city, actually it's a bit an 'out of hand' village with a tiny city center. In about 2 hours you've seen everything here. But about 70% of the Icelandic citizens leave here and because of the risks of earthquakes there are no tall buildings. Therefore the city (or big village) is widespread.

Mainly during the weekend nights, the main street Laugavegur turns into a parade for Betty Ford clinic clients. Boys and girls, who are completely wasted, but dressed like the are going to a wedding.

Another thing which makes you getting a smile on your face is the Blue Lagoon. Situated on a 10 minute ride from the international airport and 20 minutes from Reykjavik, the ideal place to relax just after your arrival or before your departure. But about 80% of the flight out of Reykjavik International operate their outbound flights in the early morning, so everybody does the Blue Lagoon experience just after landing.

If you still have some time left and a drivers license, go and rent a car and visit Geysir and the Gullfloss waterfalls.

So when you're thinking of a weekend break away (if located in Western Europe or Eastern USA) go and visit Iceland. Or alternatively, if you're travelling between Europe and North-America, take Reykjavik as stop-over.

Getting there and away: Check flights!
