1989 is maybe the most important year in history of this German city; this is the year that the Berlin Wall fell and the city became 'one' again, after being divided for several years in East and West Berlin.

Well, actually people in East Berlin could move around pretty easy, since Berlin was located 'behind' the iron curtain. So only the inhabitans of West Berlin were living in a 'closed area'. Just check the history of Berlin here, so we can talk about the fun you can have in this vibrant city.

Scroll around in downtown Berlin to check some highlights around the main street Unter den Linden and feel the majestic atmosphere from the old days. Check Potsdamer Platz to see how 'old meets new', after that, go around the corner and take a view from the roof of the Reichstag (the German house of Parliament). And next to the Reichstag you'll find the Brandenburger Tor.

Before you hit the stunning nightlife of Berlin, get a quick view of Checkpoint Charlie, the crossing point for those who were allowed to move from East to West Berlin and back.

After having a cheap but good diner you're gonna hit the bars and clubs in Berlin. In Berlin you still get value for money and eating and drinking is really cheap compared to other (West) European cities.

Nightlife in Berlin isn't happening in clubs in main streets but in areas where you normally don't want to be. Liked closed industrial parks or gray offices built during the Cold War. And as soon as they appear, as quickly they disappear again. Some clubs only exist a weekend long. Unfortunately you won't find the clubs in travel guides, so you really have to ask the 'youngsters' what's cool in town.

Another funky thing is de Dr. Pong championships. In Berlin there is a huge underground scene which is doing 'Ping Pong' tournaments. Really, you have to see (and do it) before you believe it. This can only be in Berlin....
